Contrary to Popular intuition, Solar Panels work most efficiently at temperatures under 25 degrees centigrade. Agri-Voltaics is a new concept in Solar PV Systems where Solar panels get installed above some crops or a garden or some vegetation. Not only does this kind of system help in food security, optimize space, improves aesthetics, attract more bio-diversity but also increases the overall efficiency of the Solar PV System. Thanks to regular watering of the garden/vegetation below the solar panels, the local area is generally cooler. Also, The Plants beneath the solar panels release moisture through the leaves in the process of photo-synthesis adding to a reduction in the local ambient temperature. Here is a case study comparing two PV plants in almost the same location, with the same inverters and same solar panels. One system called the Rooftop Agro PV System has most of the area below covered with vegetation. The other system called the Rooftop PV System is just panels and inverters above the concrete surface. Analysis shows about a 5% increase in yield for the Agro-PV System.
